Contemporary Landscapes: Li Huayi
Exhibition catalogue/monograph for the Honolulu Museum of Art
Essay by Shawn Eichman
From the essay by Shawn Eichman:
Li Huayi (b. 1948) is a leading innovator in the field of contemporary Chinese ink painting at a time when this field is experiencing a remarkable revitalization. Prominent critics, scholars, and collectors have embraced his work for decades, but he is still not widely discussed in the larger world of contemporary art. This is in part due to certain lingering organizational idiosyncrasies and cultural biases of art museums, the art market, and theoretical discourse on the arts.
