edited by Austen Barron Bailly with contributions from: Austen Barron Bailly, Alejo Benedetti, Mindy N. Besaw, Kaitlin Garcia-Maestas, Victor Gomez, Abby Hermosilla, Ashley Holland, Jen Padgett, Laura Pratt, Larissa Randall, Xuxa Rodríguez, Alice Walton, Olivia Walton, and John Wilmerding
From the director’s foreword by Rod Bigelow:
This guide is different because it isn’t organized by artist, museum gallery, or chronology but is instead a collection of essays featuring artworks selected by our knowledgeable team of curators, the museum’s art experts, Alice Walton, and our new Board Chair Olivia Walton. They’ve organized their contributions around areas of interest that highlight the themes, histories, or notable groups of artists that distinguish Crystal Bridges’ collection of American art. In effect, they take you on personal tours through art, nature, and space as if we were wandering to and through the museum together. Their perspectives pull the stories out of art history and are an expression of the diverse ways the entire museum community works to engage audiences near and far.
