Ranu Mukherjee: Shadowtime

artist monograph designed for Gallery Wendi Norris
essay by Jodi Throckmorten
interview by Amitav Ghosh

From the introduction by Wendi Norris:
The thematics and concerns alive in Ranu’s oeuvre range from colonial legacies to migratory journeys, from environmental catastrophes to utopian possibilities, and from the extraction of resources (gold, oil, rare earth minerals) to the preservation of memory and the realization of human potential. This book, the first monograph published on Ranu Mukherjee, aims to codify and organize, to review and expand the depth and breadth of those themes for the reader. As such, it is much more than an introduction to Ranu’s work: It presents an archive of our past and an account of our present. Much like the body of work Ranu most recently completed, it functions in part as a letter, full of love and concern, to our shared future.
