The Campaign for Art was conceived alongside SFMOMA’s building expansion and initiated in 2009. An initial pledge of a staggering 195 promised gifts of art from nine Bay Area collectors—combined with those committed from the Doris and Donald Fisher Collection—set the highest standards for the campaign, which ultimately resulted in more than three thousand gifts and promised gifts from a wide range of donors around the globe.
This publication features a selection of over 300 works from the Campaign, including works by Robert Adams, Joan Brown, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Dorothea Lange, Nam Jun Paik, Larry Sultan, Cindy Sherman, Wayne Thiebaud, Edward Weston and Lebbeus Woods.
